The crown of thorns candelabra is a beautiful work of ecclesiastical art and a vivid reminder of our Savior’s passion. Each candle represents one of the “Words” spoken by Jesus from the cross. The candles are extinguished one by one as the seven words are read. The last candle is not extinguished, but carried into the sacristy — symbolizing his burial. That candle is then restored to its place — symbolizing the glorious hope of the resurrection.
