Series Focus – “Unexpected Truths”
The Declaration of Independence boldly asserts that certain truths are “self-evident”—accessible to reason and widely recognized by observation. Lutherans note, however, that the Bible’s most important truths are not self-evident at all. They often appear surprising, even contrary to human expectations. Biblical truth is revealed by God, not discovered by reason alone. What seems obvious to human judgment and what God reveals in Scripture are often quite different.
Service Focus: The Church is for All People
“All are welcome!” Is that true here? Or is church only for the right heritage, the right behavior—”good church folk”? Could a stranger walk in and you’d wonder, “What’s someone like that doing here?” Or maybe you ask that about yourself: “Everyone else seems godly. I’m not like them. Do I belong?” Jesus shows us the Church is for all people. Regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, or status, we share the same problem: sin. And we share the same Savior. Anyone who comes to Christ’s Church crying “Lord, have mercy!” is welcome.
