Service Focus:
“He’s lost.” We use that not only for someone unsure of location but also for someone in a helpless, hopeless state. Humanity’s natural state is complete spiritual lostness, shown in many ways: the one who wants God to leave him alone, lost; the one who trusts her own strength, lost; the one who sets his own timetable for repentance, lost; the one who thinks God owes her, lost. Physical lostness can put you in bad places. Spiritual lostness puts you in the worst place of all. But Jesus does not leave us there. He seeks us relentlessly, and he involves the Christian community in seeking and rejoicing over the found.
